Take THIS Ride.....fastest car on earth

It was the summer of '72.  I was fast completing my 2nd year of a 32 year sentence with IBM.

I lived at home with my parents in Scarborough. I banked most of my payroll. Currently I was between girl friends, single, in good health and the future looked promising. Life Was Good.

MY FIRST CAR MEMORY

Looking back to my youth, I have always been a car nut. Those shiny Family carrying projectiles were a constant source of fascination to me. Each car with it's unique style and design. You could decipher the model based solely on a silhouette. Unlike today's aerodynamical styles, the only difference is the name tag applied to the front grille.  I believe the term is Jap soap bars.

WHITE 442 CONVERTIBLE

In 1972 I was 23 years old and lived with my parents in Scarborough.

I was longing for my first REAL muscle car. Until now I had only owned 2 cars : a 1958 Chev Delray station wagon that I sold in California ( but that's another story) and a 1961 Pontiac Strato Chief four door sedan.  Both underpowered 6 bangers.

MY OLDSMOBILE 442 COVERTIBLE

It was the summer of 1972. I knew exactly what I wanted.... a 1969 Olds 442 Convertible.

Remember this was an era before internet and auto trader, safety checks and emissions testing.

If you were buying a used car it was Caveat Emptor ( buyer beware ).
